Q. when should my puppy have their first groom?
A. ideally puppies need to be groomed as soon as possible to get them used to the experience, this makes the groom easier for the groomer and less stressful for the dog in the long run. Puppies should be booked in 2 weeks after their second set of injections. puppies do not get clipped during their first visit as the evolution from puppy to adult coat varies depending on breed and a grooming regime will be recommended for your pooch. Their first visit will include a bath, blow dry (as much as possible), nail trim, ear clean, sounds of clippers/ scissors and lots of cuddles of course!
Q. How long will the groom take?
A. The duration of your dogs groom varies depending on the service you want, the behaviour of your dog, the size of your dog, the condition of their coat and whether they are matted. Older dogs & rescue dogs tend to take much longer as they struggle to stand or are very anxious to be groomed. Dogs over a few months old ted to take longer as by this age they become more warey of their surroundings and grooming tends to scare them which why it is so important to get your pups groomed as early as possible. An average time of each treatment is shown on Cheshire Clips' services page, however this isn't 100% accurate as every dog is different.
Q. how much will it cost
A. the cost of your dogs groom varies depending on your dogs size, behaviour, hair type and condition of their coat. The prices under each groom are just a guide price and your dogs groom may turn out cheaper or more expensive. Curly coated dogs are more expensive as they take much more time and are more difficult.Rescue dogs or dogs with matts / bad condition may also cost more as more time and work is required to get you dog done.
Q. Will my dog be put in a crate?
A. Here at Cheshire Clips dogs wont be crated. It is 1-1 grooming meaning it will just be me and your dog in the room at a time with enough pick up time between the next appointment, this is why its so important to not be late as it can really affect the groomers appointments and cause stress for your dog. Crate free grooming allows the dog to run around the room like they would at home, making them much more comfortable.
Q. Can i stay whilst you groom my dog?
A. Having the owner in the room during grooms only adds to the stress of grooming. Dogs become very wriggly to try and get to their owner which is not safe whilst they are being groomed. Often dogs unwind as soon as the owner has left the room and are good for their groom. If you are worried about your pooch during their stay you're more than happy to contact Cheshire clips to check and see how they're getting on and any issues of course my first response is to contact you.
Q. MY dog may be aggressive when being groomed is that ok?
As long as i am made aware of your dogs behaviour i am more than happy to give grooming them a try! However, you must understand your dog probably wont be perfect and it may not even get finished the first time as grooming is a very slow process that takes many many visits for them to feel comfortable and safe in this enviroment. Some dogs may need to be muzzled, this creates less risk to your dog getting hurt and the groomer getting hurt but i try and prevent using muzzles as much as possible. Please Contact us before booking if your dog is aggressive as i may need to block off a longer slot for your dog to be groomed.
